Your First Step for The Anxious Overthinker

A simple exercise to help you notice the nervous system pattern beneath the mental looping.

If your quiz result was The Anxious Overthinker, there’s a good chance you’ve spent years believing that if you could just figure it out, make the right choice, and prepare for every possible outcome, you’d finally feel okay.

You may be the person who thinks through every angle. You replay conversations. You rehearse what you’ll say. You look for certainty before you move. You try to prevent mistakes by staying one step ahead in your mind.

But underneath all that thinking, your nervous system may have learned that scanning, planning, and mentally solving everything is safer than slowing down and feeling what’s happening in your body.

So today, we’re not going to fix everything.

We’re just going to notice the pattern.

Your First Step

This exercise takes just 2 to 5 minutes.

Find a comfortable place to sit and let yourself be still.

Take a slow breath and notice your body.

Then ask yourself:

What am I trying to figure out right now?

Don’t analyze the answer.

Just notice what comes up.

Now ask:

What do I believe will happen if I don’t figure it out perfectly?

Maybe you’ll make the wrong move.

Maybe someone will be upset with you.

Maybe you’ll miss something important.

Maybe you’ll lose control.

Or maybe you’ll discover that your mind has been working overtime because your body doesn’t yet feel safe enough to soften.

Whatever comes up, simply notice it.

Then place one hand over your heart and tell yourself:

I don’t have to think my way into safety.

Take one more slow breath.

That’s it.

You aren’t trying to stop caring.

You aren’t trying to become careless or impulsive.

You’re simply beginning to notice the difference between clear thinking and survival thinking.

Because when your nervous system believes you are only safe when you have certainty, trusting your body, making a choice, or letting an answer unfold can feel surprisingly uncomfortable.

Awareness is where change begins.

If this exercise helped you recognize even a small piece of your pattern, imagine what could happen with a little more guidance and support.

That’s exactly why I created Thaw to Thrive.

Over seven days, I’ll help you understand why your nervous system responds the way it does. You’ll learn simple, practical tools to help you step out of mental looping, calm the need for certainty, stop rehearsing every possible outcome, reconnect with your body, and begin building genuine self-trust.

Healing doesn’t happen all at once.

Sometimes it starts with realizing that you don’t have to solve everything in your mind before you’re allowed to feel safe.
